A development plan is a crucial part of electrical network design. We prepare the development plan required by electricity network companies, taking into account the strategic goals of the network company and relevant legislation. The plan outlines the network’s development needs to meet the electricity supply security requirements mandated by the Electricity Market Act. Electricity network companies are required to submit an updated network development plan to the Energy Authority every two years.
We create general network plans based on the network development plan. The general plan serves as the foundation for more detailed electrical engineering and terrain planning. The plan always considers the network company’s own strategic goals and the development prospects of the target area.
We assist electricity distribution network operators in developing their asset management practices. Managing network assets is one of the most critical functions for electricity network companies, and we have gained insights into various approaches across Finland. We can fully implement asset management as an outsourced function, or alternatively, carry out a separate development project to enhance asset management practices.
In electrical planning, the network is dimensioned to meet the requirements of standards and the criteria set by the client. Preliminary planning allows us to provide a cost estimate for constructing the electrical network, supporting the client’s investment calculations. During the terrain planning phase, the electrical dimensions are continuously reviewed and adjusted as the planning progresses, ensuring compliance with regulations and the quality of the plan
The terrain planning phase involves surveying the routes for the electrical network and, if necessary, mapping existing components in the field. During terrain planning, the feasibility of the proposed route is assessed, and solutions are sought to bypass any obstacles. Site inspections may also be conducted with authorities, contractors, or the client’s representatives as needed. The outcome of this planning phase is a work package delivered to the client, containing the necessary documents for constructing the network.
We handle the entire permitting process for the planned route. This includes negotiating and securing placement agreements with landowners. We manage the electrical network permitting related to roads, waterways, and environmental aspects with the ELY Centre and the Regional State Administrative Agency (AVI). We also handle placement permit applications, building permits, and action permits in coordination with municipalities and cities. Additionally, we assess other necessary permits and statements that may be required, such as those from the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency(Väylävirasto) and the National Board of Antiquities (Museovirasto)
Our maintenance planning provides solutions for situations where a need for replacement in the electrical network is identified, such as a deteriorated pole. We conduct an assessment of the replacement needs and provide a proposal for the cost-effective implementation of network renewal, including different options with their cost impacts and schedule estimates. Maintenance planning can also be carried out as individual, more narrowly defined projects
